If you are looking for ways to get motivated, you have to figure out what it is that drives you. That can be different for everybody.

For some it may be money, while for others it can be fame, family, having a great body or many other things. You see motivation comes from the desire to obtain something you want. When you are not motivated, it is hard to accomplish much of anything in life.

Surely you can relate to this in some way. Motivation does not always have to come in big forms. Think about when you were little for instance. I remember when I used to have to go to the doctor, my parents would say if you are a good boy we will get you a toy after your appointment.

Well that was all the motivation I needed. The doctor would always say, what a good boy he is. And I was, I wouldn’t move a muscle, and I was always well behaved. Now this is a good example of how to use motivation on someone else.

But how can we motivate ourselves? The following are ways to get motivated and stay motivated without loosing momentum, although it always depends on the individual.

What is motivation?

Motivation is the inner drive to pursue a goal or accomplish a task. It is defined as a person’s innate desire or urge to perform an act, achieve a result, or perform in a certain way.

Motivation is the feeling someone experiences when they are working hard to achieve a goal. It can be positive, negative, or neutral. Motivating someone means getting them to do what you want them to do, when and where you want them to do it. Motivational techniques can be found everywhere and they all can work.

5 Ways To Get Motivated

Here are 5 ways to get motivated and stay motivated. 

1. Set your sights on something you want to achieve

This may be up for debate, but in my opinion this is the best way to get and stay motivated. When you have a goal you are going after, there is nothing that can create motivation like an end goal. Whether you are going after a fitter body, a better job, more money or anything else.

Now of course this has to be something that gives you pleasure. You are not going to keep that momentum up if you set a goal for something that does not peak your interest. Set your sights high, and think about the end result every day. Little by little, and when you reach that goal, set another one, and so on. This is the first and one of the most important ways to get motivated.

2. Challenge yourself

Nothing can be more motivating than going after something you may doubt that you can obtain. The problem most people have is they simply do not try something if they have the belief they cannot accomplish it.

We as humans are so much more capable than we ever give ourselves credit for. In this day and age with the internet and everyone posting how to videos, it is easier than ever to get something done without any knowledge on the subject.

If its loosing weight, or becoming a millionaire, you will never know if you don’t try. So set your sight high, and if you have to adjust along your journey than adjust, but never give up and you will be surprised at not only the motivation you will get but also happiness.

3.Think Of Your Family

Now this is a no brainer. There is nothing that can motivate me like thinking of my family and what I would do for them. Of course this does not have to mean kids, that is of course if you don’t have any.

You may want to achieve something to make your parents or siblings proud. Maybe you want to impress your girlfriend or boyfriend. No matter what the case, this is another sure form to get and keep you motivated.

4. Visualize

This may intertwine with one, but you must have a goal that excites you. Now try and visualize achieving this goal as much as possible. Don’t think about the task of doing it, instead focus on how your life will be when you have achieved this goa you set out for.

When I set goals all I ever see is the end result, I see myself as if I have accomplished it and how it will feel, and before I know it that task is completed and I get motivated for the next one.

5. Do not procrastinate

The easiest way to get unmotivated is to procrastinate or say “I should do something”. A simple change you can make in the words of the great “Tony Robbins” is to change all your shoulds to musts.

By saying I must do something instead of I should, you are changing the dynamic of the task at hand in your mind , to a more important matter. This will most likely keep you off the couch and keep you busy. By thinking of what will happen if you procrastinate, you can help to turn a should into a must. It is the last thing on my ways to get motivated techniques.

What to do if you lose motivation? 

Losing motivation is a normal part of becoming a scientist and it is a natural human response to life’s challenges. However, if you want to maintain your productivity, it is important to develop solutions to overcome these challenges and build your stamina for the long haul. Do the following if you lose motivation.

  1. Act as If You Feel Motivated
  2. Practice Self-Compassion
  3. Pair a Dreaded Task With Something You Enjoy. 
  4. Go For a Walk in Nature
  5. Manage Your To-Do List
  6. Reward Yourself for Working
  7. Seek Professional Help

Causes of Having No Motivation

There are many causes of having no motivation. These causes can be classified Below. 

  • Self-doubt and lack of support
  • Lack of commitment to a goal. 
  • Being over-extended
  • Mental health issues And emotional distress. 
  • Avoidance of discomfort
  • Confusion and lack of sleep. 

What causes lack of motivation?

There are many different reasons that people lack motivation. Some of these reasons are not within a person’s control, but some are. If you can’t change the causes, then you can change your approach to helping these people. These are some of the causes of lack of motivation. 

  • Not being in control of your jobs. 
  • You don’t believe in yourself. 
  • Don't aim high enough.
  • Fear is holding you back.
  • Your unhealthy lifestyle is taking a toll. 
  • You are impatient. 

How can I get motivated quickly?

Motivation is the event when an individual becomes highly excited about an activity and is able to willingly put forth maximal effort toward achieving a goal.

  • Allow Yourself Time to Relax and Rest. 
  • Don't neglect eating chocolate or foods that release dopamine.
  • Be Aware of Your Self Talk. 
  • Watch motivational videos
  • Look for some greenery.

An end result is feeling rejuvenated and an inner peace that is hard to describe. When you get motivated, your life becomes one of meaning, and in return strengthens your relationships with everyone around you. No matter what your motivation is, it does not have to be conveyed to anyone.

Motivation can be anything or come from anywhere as long as it works for you. For a long period of my life I was not motivated at all.

Now there is not a day that goes by where I am not motivated, and it is because I have learned how to use different resources to get me to that point.
